Who we are and where we work

AVS — Air Conditioning + Ventilation Services — is a local heat pump installer, not a national franchise. The team that measures your room installs the unit, and the same technicians come back for servicing. How installation works

The same three steps, whether it is one bedroom unit or a whole-home ducted system.

1. Free in-home measure

We come to your home, measure the room, check insulation, glazing and sun exposure, and look at the switchboard. We also work out where the outdoor unit should go — for noise, airflow and, near the coast, shelter from salt spray. No charge, no obligation. 2. Written, itemised quote

You receive a written quote listing the unit and its capacity in kilowatts, standard installation, electrical connection, pipework and covers, commissioning, a hand-over on the controls and tidy-up, GST included. Anything specific to your home — a long pipe run, a new dedicated circuit, two-storey access — appears as its own line so nothing is a surprise on the day. Single-room high-wall installs typically land in the $2,500–$4,500 range, with entry units from around $1,999–$3,000 installed.

3. Installation and hand-over

Our EWRB-certified technicians mount the indoor and outdoor units, run and insulate the refrigerant pipework, connect the drain, complete the electrical work and commission the system. Most single high-wall installs are finished within a day. High-wall or ducted?

Most Tauranga installs are one of two types.

High-wall heat pumps are the familiar indoor unit mounted high on the wall, paired with an outdoor unit — the most cost-effective way to heat and cool one main space. Capacity ranges from about 2.5 kW for a small bedroom to 7 kW and more for open-plan living. Where three or four rooms need covering, a multi-room system running several indoor units off one outdoor unit is usually better value than separate installs. Browse the range at heat pumps.

Ducted heat pumps put the equipment in the ceiling cavity and deliver warm or cool air to every room through discreet vents, often zoned so bedrooms and living areas run independently. It is a larger job — typically $7,000–$15,000 installed — and the result is whole-home comfort with nothing on the walls. Installing near the coast

Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and much of Tauranga sit close enough to the sea that salt air is a genuine risk to a standard outdoor unit. Salt corrodes the coil fins and casing, and an unprotected unit near the beach can fail years early.

For coastal homes we do two things. We specify coastal-rated models with anti-corrosion coatings on the outdoor coil and casing — available across the Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Panasonic ranges we install — and we position the outdoor unit to shelter it from on-shore spray wherever the site allows, with a simple rinse-down routine explained at hand-over. The coastal-rated unit costs more up front and is the cheaper choice over the life of the system.

Our installation work is backed by a 5-year workmanship warranty, on top of the manufacturer's warranty on the unit. If something we did is at fault, we fix it. We also service what we install — an annual service keeps the unit efficient and protects the manufacturer's warranty conditions — via heat pump servicing and maintenance.
